Tracking & Perception: A Three-Season Series, Central New England

$1,175.00

This pilot course in Tracking & Perception takes place in various Central New England locations, determined by the location of participants in order to best accommodate the group’s geography.

As unique a tracking course as one might encounter and as far from typical as one can imagine.

Led by Daniel Hansche, a Track & Sign Evaluator who has spent their life tracking both wildlife and human perception, each of these three weekends expose wildlife trackers to a variety of processes that hone and enhance their ability to see clearly, and to see more of what is there in the field and forest.

We will spend time interpreting tracks & sign, trailing animals, and interpreting what we see.

In contrast to a traditional approach, this course will not be dictated by a syllabus nor hard & fast schedule but rather by what puzzle pieces the animals and other track-makers have left behind.

While so much of contemporary wildlife tracking centers on knowledge and rote memorization, this series’ emphasis is on the extremely wide range of approaches that lie beyond the intensity of intellect alone. From learning how artistic media can inform our mental process to how our own bodies and somatic relationship to animal and place can lead us straight to the answers we are seeking, this experience dives deep and does not for a moment disregard the value and richness of natural history information but rather suspends the processes in our abilities to pause before jumping to conclusions.

Until we track our perception, we cannot track what lies beyond it.
